MITE promotes Women’s SHGs by practicing small savings coupled with Savings and Credit for its group members. Self-Help Groups (SHGs) play a vital role in empowering rural women to build a faster, fairer, and more sustainable socio-economic status. Access to financial stability through group savings and credits enables women to participate more actively in economic activities, thereby increasing their ability to meet their immediate financial requirements.
These groups consist of small voluntary associations of 10-12 women, preferably from the same socio-economic background, aimed at overcoming economic hardships through self-help and mutual support. These savings funds are effectively revolving among members to meet their immediate financial needs without requiring any security or guarantor.
The revolving scheme through SHGs has transferred tangible economic power into the hands of women and significantly reduced their dependence on Microfinance Companies or money lenders. This initiative has contributed to women’s empowerment and self-confidence, as they come together to overcome economic challenges through collective support.
